Key partners supporting Tokyo’s waterworks now and in the future

The Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government is building a comprehensive operating structure for the core operations of the water supply business undertaken by the bureau and Tokyo Water Co., Ltd. as a policy collaborator to responsibly provide a reliable supply of safe, tasty, high quality water into the future in a way that is both efficient and good for the community. As a single team called the Tokyo Water Group, we utilize the strengths of the bureau and the company and engage organically in cooperation under a unified management strategy to manage the group.

With the amendment of the Waterworks Law, frequent natural disasters due to climate change, and the advancement of digital transformation, we are facing an environment surrounding water supply business in Tokyo we have never before experienced. To respond appropriately to these changes in the environment and boost the combined strength of the Tokyo Water Group, we must further reinforce our group ties to ensure we engage in efficient and effective business in a unified manner. For this reason, we integrate our personnel recruiting and training, for example with personnel exchanges and joint training in the Group. We are also further enhancing the combined strength of the group through a Tomoni Project aimed at fostering a sense of unity and improving operations, with the bureau and the company as equal partners.

The bureau will work with Tokyo Water Co., Ltd. to carry out water supply business as one of the most important core utilities and continue supporting the daily life of Tokyo metropolitan residents and urban activities of Tokyo as Japan’s capital.

Operational structure and mission-critical operations of the Tokyo Water Group

The Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Water Co., Ltd. are equal partners creating the Tokyo Water Group that collaborates to support waterworks in the Tokyo Metropolitan area.
Tokyo Water Co., Ltd. is responsible for technical and management work transferred from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the importance of that role will grow as more work is transferred over.
Through personnel exchanges, joint training, and disaster response in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, we help reinforce the management base and collective strength of the Tokyo Water Group to ensure we provide a reliable supply of water that is safe and tasty into the future.

Emergency response in the event of a natural disaster

Tokyo Water Co., Ltd. has signed an agreement on cooperation in the event of a natural disaster with the Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
When there is an earthquake or other natural disaster, we cooperate with the Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government to carry out emergency response activities such as surveying the damage in waterworks facilities and pipelines, taking emergency measures, and surveying for leaks. When a widespread water outage occurs, we cooperate with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Waterworks and local governments to provide emergency water supplies.
To prepare for natural disasters, we regularly hold disaster drills with the Bureau of Waterworks, supporting daily life in Tokyo during a disaster and urban activities in Tokyo, Japan’s capital, as the Tokyo Water Group.

Tokyo Water Group-wide recruiting and training

The Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Water Co., Ltd. are engaged in group-wide personnel recruiting and training to reinforce the combined strength of the Tokyo Water Group.
We are actively engaged in personnel training as a unified Tokyo Water Group, for example with our company participating in practical training and special training provided by the Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government,holding joint training with the bureau, and expanding personnel exchanges by sending bureau staff and company employees to the other’s location for training (training period: 1 to 2 years).

Cooperation with operations to provide accommodation and treatment to people with mild COVID-19 symptoms

Tokyo Water Co., Ltd. cooperated with operations by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to provide accommodation and treatment to people with mild COVID-19 symptoms under a cooperative framework with the Bureau of Waterworks Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
As a policy collaborator f that is one member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government group, we help protect the lives and health of Tokyo metropolitan residents.
